Dog bites kids next store

2 weeks ago my soninlaw had his 15 moth old lb mix chain in the back yard the kid next door rode his bike in the back and the dog scratched him . The lady next door was going to call the law but we poined out he was were he wasn, supose to be .two weeks later her other son come in our frount yard we had the dog chained on the porch he gets a 1 inch scratch not a bite we saw the it scratch now the neighbor called the law we told her the dog had shots she took the boy to the er and is now suing my soninlaw for 1000 dollars .seems to me she sented her kid on porpose to get money who is right

It doesn't matter who is right.
It only matters what the court says.
Tell the truth at trial and let a judge and jury decide.
From what you say, she might win.
But, none of that has been settled.
If I were your son, I'd keep the dog inside or give it away.

So the headline says bite, but the comment says it was only a scratch... one is obviously more serious than the other.
I would be that if the dog was reasonably secured there won't be too much to worry about over a scratch. There is no medical treatment for a scratch that costs more than a little antiseptic and a band-aid.
Is this a vicious dog? Was it attacking the kid or was it more of a playful scratch? Was the kid trying to play with the dog? Why was the kid within the dog's reach on the chain?
