My jurisdiction is: canada

My Boyfriend and i seperated after 5 years, we bought the dog together 4 years ago and both want him badly. We have been seperated for 3 months now and have shared him taking turns one week at a time. There was a verbal discussion that i would keep the dog originally that he wasnt happy about but never fought me on it, until now. Nothing was done in writing before hand and i just found out that one month ago he snuck off and got a dog license in his name without telling me. Also the ownership info is in his name at the vets, i dont believe we put it in both our names, at the time i never thought of it. So now its either let him have ownership or take it to court and fight. By the looks of it my chances arent good...but i dont know how this works and i am tired of fighting. I just wanted to know what my chances were if any...or how this would even work in court. He is like our child so its like a custody battle.....

:(

You'll have to agree to take turns. I doubt any court is going to intervene in this.

Much as you love the dog, it's not a custody battle. It's just a case of disputed ownership. Who has the dog now? Possession is leverage.
