Hello dear friends,

My neighbour is a sufferer from domestic violence. She has called the police many times and they never catch him in the 'act', and their excuse is that she needs more evidence.

She has called many private investigators to try and film the 'act' as the police call it, however they are very expensive. Somehow I have been dragged into the situation, and she has asked me to try and record / collect evidence for her.

I do not have the heart to say no to her, so I agreed. Now I have called private investigators myself and they are very expensive.

Now my question for you all is.... If I do manage to collect evidence which will prove what she and her son is going through, will she be able to use this in court?

The private investigators said that it will be difficult to use unless you have a license.

Does anyone know any information on this topic please?

This is really sad. I do hope lawyers from this forum, or those who are well versed with the law will be able to address to the question.

This is a terrible situation. As a person who has gone through an abusive marriage, I can attest to the fact that the cops do absolutely NOTHING in these situations. I finally got out of it with the help of my friends (who knew what was going on even though I always lied about where I got the bruises) and neighbors who heard it, and saw me bruised up afterwards.

My best advice to her would be to go to an abused women's shelter. And keep calling the police. Even though they don't do squat, the reports help when you go to court. The abused women's shelters have resources for getting restraining orders (which, IMHO don't help much), quick divorces, counseling and getting her life back on track.
