I currently attend a private college in Connecticut and was the victim of a room investigation involving marijuana. The school investigators recieved an anonymous tip that my immediate roomate was selling marijuana through our room. They proceeded to search his area and found nothing but a bag with residue in it. They then searched my area and found a scale with residue on it under my bed and inside a closed cooler. Is this allowed since the item found was not being looked for in my area and it was not in plain sight. Is this a legal confiscation of the scale and can it be used against me? Also, how much trouble can you get in for having, only a scale with residue on it? Finaly, what exactly does residue imply as far as, how much weed was actually there, and can it be used to prove intent to sell?

I would also like to know how an individuals rights are treated since this is a private campus? Any information will help

I attended the University of Tennessee and they would do regular dorm searches. They couldnt open or look in anything closed (fridge, closet) unless they gave you 24 hrs notice. Even if you had the sheets on your bed pulled to the floor, they couldnt look underneath your bed. Thats the way it is there, dont know if this would apply to your school or not.
