I recently was approved for a $23k loan from my bank. I gave them the vehicle information and dealer information and they said they would overnight the check to me. I spoke to the dealer I wanted to buy the vehicle from and he said he would a $1000 down payment to hold the vehicle. I called the bank to make sure they were going to be sending me the $23k check and they confirmed they would overnight the check. I then proceeded to send the $1000 to the dealer by paypal to hold the vehicle. The next business day the bank told me they don't do loans on conversion vans and do not work with private dealers even though the day before they had all the information and approved it but the loan officer failed to realize the banks lending rules. I spoke to the dealer to advise of the situation and he said the $1000 is non-refundable. How can I get my $1000 back?

Is there anything in the paperwork you signed with the dealer regarding this?

You can request the seller to return your deposit.
That often is a nonstarter.
You can see if PayPal will do anything to help.
Otherwise, your only recourse is to file a lawsuit and let a court decide.
The issue with that action is, it rarely works.
