I work in a closed union workplace and our employer has installed drivecam in only about half of our company vehicles for a few years now and the other vehicles have no cameras, and when this program was first presented it was stated it would not be used to to punish anyone just to make you a better driver. They now have started to suspend people without pay and threaten to fire people. My question is it legal to do this when not all employees have cameras in their vehicles.I am a concerned shop steward who looks out for all not just a few.

Unless there is some reason to believe that who is and is not issued a drive cam and/or suspended is based on characteristics protected by law, there is nothing in what you are describing that violates the law. I cannot speak for whether it violates your CBA.

How did they decide which vehicles to put cameras in? As cbg noted, as long as they didn't make the decision based on a reason prohibited by law or discipline employees (ie suspend, fire) based on a reason prohibited by law, what you posted is not illegal. (unless you have a CBA to the contrary)
