My son was issued an MIP in 2004 when he was 18 yrs old. He was at a party, and the polive came and handed out tickets. He went to court, paid his fines and did community service. He was issued another one in 2005. Did the same thing. He then received a traffic ticket in late 2005. He was unable to pay it, so they sent him notice that his license was suspended and gave him a hearing date. He missed the date due to transportation problems, but continued to drive, hoping to not get caught, I'm sure... In late 2006, he was pulled over for a dim headlight (honest, saw the ticket myself), and he happened to have a small amount of pot in his posession. He went to court. The judge had him pay fines, due some counseling and anger mgmt classes (??), community service, probation for a year, and saaid he couldn't get his license back until some of it was completed. He's met all of his obligations, but now the state isn't giving him back his license, because they say he is at risk for drunk driving. He was never convicted of drunk driving, or even pulled over for anything like that. How can we get his license back. It seems so arbitrary and subjective. I know people who have gone to jail for drugs and/or alcohol and have their license. I don't get it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

The MIP may have done him in.

Remember, this is HIS issue - not yours. He made these very un-wise decisions and has had to pay the price for them.

What state are you in? Has he spoken to the DMV? Has he received a clearance from the court stating that he has completed all his required counseling and probation terms?
