My license was suspened due to a unpaid traffic ticket in the City of Atlanta which I forgot about. I was not notified by DDS that my license was or would be suspended either. I believe they are supposed to give you a notice 28 days prior to the suspension taking effect. Anyway... I was in a minor traffic accident and that when I found out my licnese was suspended. I ended up getting arrested by the City of Decatur police. I was bailed out and I'm now trying to figure out what I need to do. I have read several places getting convicted of driving on a suspended license will result in fines, 2 days in jail and your license suspended for an additional 6 months! I'm going tomorrow to pay the traffic ticket in the City of Atlanta. Once I pay that and go to DDS and pay my fine will my license be reinstated until my court date August for driving on a suspended license? Or since the arresting officer took my license will my licese still be suspended untilt the driving on a suspended license is resolved? If so, can I get a limited license. Also, should I get an attorney, I am so worried that I will have to go to jail for 2 days and have my license suspended for an additional 6 months. Please any help!!!!

You will likely need to appear in front of the judge in Atlanta who suspended your license to get it removed, in addition to paying the fines. A lawyer may get the dws charge amended, if the original reason is rectified and all accident expenses have been resolved including injury claims.

You need a real attorney. You need your attorney. Paying the fine will be useful, one day. But, you won't get your license back immediately. Your license was confiscated for a very good reason. Beware, you might not be able to pay the fine, u til you see a judge. I suspect you now have the prior charges pending, PLUS a FAILURE TO APPEAR charge and warrant.
