I live in Illinois and was stopped in Indiana for speeding in a construction zone (45-50 is the limit, he says I was 70). Lawyer wants some serious money to reduce the conviction to a regular ticket, timeframe: months. My driver's license just expired, and I can't renew it because of this "stop" on the record. I looked into my driving record and there is no description about it being in a construction zone. So why pay a lawyer and wait months to be able to drive again in order to get rid of an infraction that is not even described as such in the driving record? If I go ahead and pay the fine at least I will be driving in no time. Let me know if I am on the right track here. BTW, this is my only ticket in the last 12 months.

Have you considered DEFERRED ADJUDICATION?
Google it, see if the court in IN allows its use.
If DA is available to you, it's probably your most effective option.
I can't tell you what choice works best for you.
I can say that the RIGHT lawyer can achieve remarkable results.

It appears you have a boggle. The defacto speed limit is 70 on the highway. I can easily see a red flag raised when the ticket is processed even if it does mention the construction zone specifically. What code were you cited under and what were the listed speed and speed limit on the ticket?

I would expect that paying the traffic fine is far cheaper than paying a lawyer.
Ask if traffic school is an option to keep it from being reported to insurance.

I am giving additional details in order to answer these questions.
1. Called local county in IN and attempted to reason with them in order to enroll in the deferral program. Told to wait for the postcard in the mail
2. Postcard never arrived, called the county to inquire on status, was told license was suspended for failure to appear for court appearance. Was told that construction zone speeding is not eligible for the deferral program.

Conviction native off (number), Code 68, Vehicle speed 70, Prima Facie speed 45.
