This is a 2 year old matter i just found out about yesterday. I am posting this here instead of seeking professional legal consultation because money is really tight right now and i cannot afford to go to a lawyer. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I went on a trip to Canada with my brother in 2008 and when we got back i foolishly had left my passport in the glove compartment of the vehicle. My brother got pulled over in NJ a few weeks later for speeding and didn't have his license on him (or so he claims). He showed the officer my passport as identification because he thought it was his since it was in the glove compartment of his vehicle. He got served with two tickets and a mandatory court appearance. He never told me anything and since nobody went to court a warrant was apparently issued for failure to appear. I was unaware of all this for 2 years because my brother figured i would never find out about it and it would all go away. Well i found out about it and right now he's laying in bed with a broken nose.
Is there anyway i can take care of this matter without turning myself in? I don't live in NJ and like i said money is really tight right now, i might not even be able to post bail. My brother said he signed something, so can i fax over a copy of my drivers license to the prosecutors office to show them i'm not the individual they served with the tickets since the signatures will not match?
