I had my 5 year old sequinned dress dry cleaned this week. The dress was returned with all the sequins missing. When I went to inquire, I was told that they fell off during dry cleaning and they had no idea why. I asked them if any precautions were taken for the sequins and the had no answer. They offered $60 compensation. The dress was purchased from Saks 5 years ago, worn about 4 times and cost $350. What do I do next?

Most dry cleaners have a policy on the receipt, stating what their liability is (somthing like 3 times the amount of the cost of their services), or a sign visible to the customer. If this is the case $60 sounds appropriate. Otherwise can you prove, they could foresee the damage drycleaning your dress would cause. If so expect a depreciated value for the dress. My suggestion is take the $60 if they will not negotiate with you.
