Naturalization, Citizenship Dual citizenship U.S./Canada

Hello, I was born in the U.S. to a Canadian mother and U.S. father. Spent much time in Canada both growing up and now-consider it home. I was told a few years ago that i might be eligable for dual citizenship due to the fact that my mom was canadian when i was born. I sent all of the required paperwork fees etc. to Halifax and was turned down. Still not sure why? I believe that laws possibly changed after 9/11? any ideas? I would be so happy to be able to claim canadian citizenship and maybe someday live there-at least part-time.

Canadian citizenship law for people born abroad of Canadian parents depends in part on your date of birth abroad. When were you born? If after 1977, you acquired Canadian citizenship at birth from your mother, and I'm not sure why I'm not sure why it wouldn't be recognized. If before 1977, you are probably out of luck.

I was born in 1958 so i guess i am out of luck. Thank you for the information.
