16 Months ago I purchased a vehicle on ebay from a seller in NY. I had the car shipped to my home in Ohio. It arrived without problems however the title was not in the car as seller had promised. After speaking with the seller he said he had forgotten to stick it in the glove box and would mail it. Two weeks passed and the title didn't arrive. The seller would no longer return my calls. I contacted ebay who put me in touch with their Auction Insurance Department. To make a long story short they got no where with the seller. He consistently lied to them about loosing the title and applying for a new one. Through their resources they were able to "watch" activity at the NY department of motor vehicles to see if this guy was actually trying to get a new title. He never did. So Auction Insurance reimbursed me for the cost of the car minus about 600 bucks in shipping costs and closed the file (after permanently suspending the guy from ebay). Auction Insurance did not want the car and told me to do what I want with it...suggesting maybe I could a sell it for parts to recoup my lost 600 bucks. It's too nice a vehicle to sell for parts . It's been sitting in my driveway for over a year now. What are my options for obtaining a title?

Call the New York DMV and see if the vehicle has a lien on it-- is it does not -- work with them to get a title, there is something wired -- the man that you bought this from should have had no trouble getting a duplicate title-- unless he has a lien holder?

Honestly I would also call the NY DMV there might be a provess to go through to get a new title. Do you have a bill of sale? Selling it for parts may not be a bad idea if you get nowhere with DMV. You can sell the parts for more than 600.00. Did you do a carfax on it to see if the car is even the sellers legally?
