I have a friend/colleague of whom I have know for 8 years.
During this time I have not had any arguements, or even the slightest diagreement with him. I have been in contact with him on an occasional basis all the way up until 6 months ago of which I no longer heard from him.

2 months ago month I decided to contact him , just to see how things are going.
I called him at his office, got vmail, left a vmail. Called him at his house, wife told me he was on travel. So I sent him an email, of which no response.

A few weeks later I make another attemp at email and finally I get an answer stating that not to contact him ever again.

Shocked by this email, because I thought we were good friends. I replied stating I could not believe the answer I received from him and was he serious?

No Response. One day about two weeks agao I get a call in regards to him. Not knowing what to make if it, I emailed againd telling about this call I got and he did respond this time vehemently and said that if I do not stop emailing him or contacting him he would seek legal advice.

First of all my emails are not threatening. I was concerned on why he did not want to me to contact him, there was no explanation whats ever from him.

My question here is: He lives in Toronto Canada and I live in the USA.
Could he take legal action against me for trying to phone him or contact him.

My call and email were not threatning. I just trying to find out what I did that was wrong and I can't think of anything I ever said or did.

I have not contacted him any more,

Why did you ask this under Employment - Discrimination and Harassment?

He could try to take legal action. He could sue for an injunction or for damages. I can't imagine either would be successful, but then, we don't know his side of the story. Dude wants to cut his ties; let him cut them.

I'm idly curious to know more about this call you received regarding him.

Hi:
Thanks for your response. I live in the USA and he is over in Canada. What jurisdiction would they have in the USA? I do not know what his side of the story is. He never told me. I got a call from some one who would not mention where they were from, but they wanted to know information about him. They left a vmail and I never call them back. I did not know how to answer the questions they had like his where abouts, what his demeanor was like, had he had any finacial problems, etc. It sounded to me like and investigation. For some reason they new my name.

So I emailed him and asked him about it and asked why I was being dragged in. He replied that it was a bunch of bull.

His responese each time where vague. Being a friend, I get the hinch something is wrong. Before all of this, I had not heard from him in 6 months. So I do not know what has been going on.

Since he has threaten legal action, I have stopped contacting him.

What case would he have and especially he is in another country.

It's ashame here. This was a friend and a colleague, and someone who I thought was intelligent.

I never threaten him at all. My emails where in the essence of what is wrong and call me tell me whats up, maybe I can help.

Each Response also contained Don't contact me.

It's like if you and I knew each other for a long time and then you don;t here from me in a while and when you contact me I tell Don't call me again, and give very very little clue as to why.

For whatever reason, he does not want you to contact him.

If you abide by his wishes and do not contact him, no one will have any reason to take any legal action against you.

Hi:

Thanks for your reply. Even though I did contact him a few times, I have stopped it. I never did anything wrong to him and just don't know why he has lashed out at me. Thanks for your response. I appreciate it.
