Well I am 18 and I am dating a girl who is 16. We both want to get married but her parents won't consent. She wishes to become emancipated and live with me. The first part of my whole ordeal is what steps would we need to go through to have that happen?
The next part of this is if we aren't able to get her emancipated will a marriage in a different country (i.e. Canada) be accepted in the U.S. with the legal name-changing and all other gratuities it entails.
For the emancipation purposes and reasons for hastiness, I am going into the Navy in a few months and would be able to support on my end.
If any details need clarification let me know. I knew exactly what I was going to write right before i put my hands to the board.--Thanks

See these threads for the skinny on emancipation.

It's probably not going to happen.

Nor is marriage the solution. She can't legally get married in Canada unless she is 18 (or in some provinces 19) or has parental consent either. As I understand Mexican marriage, it's the same thing: 18 or parental consent. http://www.rockypointinsider.com/marriage-in-mexico.asp There are, in fact, very good reasons for this.

IF you even ATTEMPT to take this legal child out of the state you are facing FELONY charges. The AOC in Calif is 18. She can't consent to ANYTHING until then.
Go and consult with an attorney in Ca. and find out how many laws you will be breaking. ;)

And Calif WILL PROSECUTE. LEO's in CA. take a dim view on LEGAL ADULTS molesting LEGAL CHILDREN.

And if you think that any judge in any state in the US (or Canada, for that matter) will emancipate a 16 year old so that she can get married against her parent's wishes, all I can say is that you're thinking with the wrong organ of your body.

It isn't going to happen, pal. Cross the state line with her and you can bet that the Federal government will be paying for your support all right, but it won't be navy quarters - it'll be a Federal prison.
