Hi I am i 16 year old Jr going on 17 and I would like to get emancipated because i can no longer take my mother's mentally abusive ways, she says to me that since I'm older she no longer has to care for me, then why should i have to live with her.I have a job at Panera Bread and i've been there for almost 6 months now and they know everything about how my mother treats me . I have a place To go my really good friend parents are very sable and they said they have plenty of room for me to come live with them. They treat me like I'm one of theirs already they hate to see me go through the pain , my mom would even take my hard earned money from Me. If i get emancipated I will save up my money so i can get a car and buy things for my friend's family home even though they don't need me to. I have a job and a plan, a place to go and with a family that cares. Is it worth the time and dedication to get emancipated?

I'm not doing it because I'm unhappy I'm doing because she doesn't want to provide care for me anymore . And i have 2 jobs plus a place to go why isn't that enough?

You didn't read that link, did you?

Hon, you are just not going to be emancipated.

Here's the minimum you need:

You can afford to pay full market rent (and not a reduced amount because you're moving in with someone else's family, food, clothing, utilities, health insurance, transportation, sundry items

And generally you must already be living outside of the home.

Emancipation is intended to allow minors who, through no fault of their own (example: parents are killed in plane crash), need the legal ability to get the power switched over to their name, etc.

You also need to understand that the court will actually be looking for any reason to deny the petition.

If you are 16, I assume you are still in school. A judge might wonder how you are going to work two jobs & go to school at the same time. Anyway, also for the information in the link & reasons posted by Proserpina, you are not going to qualify. Sorry.

Even IF you could convince a judge, the process would likely take 18-24 months anyway.

You get the picture?
