I received a letter from an appraiser stating that the city is acquiring my business in eminent domain proceedings to give to a developer (first time I heard this). The area is not blighted since there are already multi-million dollar development near me. Also there is vacant land on the same street that could be taken, but only I was singled out. My business always pass inspection so I think this is political highjinks, maybe some greased palms with a developer. I am in the process of getting a lawyer.

I understand that I can not stop the appraiser from doing an estimate of my property. However, can I forbid the appraiser from physically going onto my property and inside my building? I don't want to give them ammunition when I take them to court.

I need to know if I am violating the law by barring the appraiser from physically going inside my business. He made it sound as if I must let him inside my building and I must give him copies of my business documents like tax returns. etc or next time he stops by he will have the police with him. Is that true?
