Hi, My employer sent an email out on 11-6 stating that everyones wages will be cut by 10% for the upcoming check. My pay period runs from the first to the fifteenth. Is it legal for them to announce that this will be effective 11-1. Not only that but we receive a .35 cent a mile reimbursement, and that was cut in the same way. My main question is not so much about the pay cut but whether thay can do this in the middle of a pay period without the prior notice.
Thanks,

In most, but not all, states, they are only required to notify you of a wage cut before any hours are worked at the lower rate. There is no requirement that it be at the beginning of a pay period.

In the remaining states retroactive decreases ARE legal under employment law, though a possibility exists that it may be a violation of contract law.
