Last year I started to work for my current company. I applied for a mid-level manager position and believed that I got it because of my new boss and the CEO taking me out to dinner and offering me the job. When I got the job offer letter, my six-figure compensation is there along with my bonus and stock option but my title was blank. I started the job the following week and every month asked my boss about my job title situation which he kept delaying. When I asked him on September, he told me to wait for November. In November, when I asked him, he told me he would take care of it in January and I can ask for the bigger title and more stock option. Eventually he hired somebody to take the position that I thought I had and I was "supposely" push under him.

That was January 2008, and during the meantime I made the company many millions of dollars. And I still do not have a title. Eventually I got tired of this game and gave my notice. I know that my title that they put down that I have would not be the mid-level manager position that I applied for. That is very upsetting because I got a few other similar job offers before acceptting this job. If I would have known about this situation I would never have taken this job.

Another thing that is getting me is that my bonus is 10% of my salary. I been there for over a year and am suppose to get my review. So now that I am leaving I am not going to see a single penny. Is there something that I can do? I kept kicking myself because if I would have waited about a week before giving notice, I would have gotten my review and my bonus. This is what happens when I tried to be nice.

No law in any state requires an employer to provide performance reviews, ever.

Whether or not you are legally due your bonus depends on the terms of the bonus agreement.

When I got the job offer letter, my six-figure compensation is there along with my bonus and stock option but my title was blank. That is why you don't accept or sign an agreement that is not clear when it comes to what was negotiated.

Is there something that I can do? Was there anything in the contract tying your bonus to performance review?

Thanks for the email. I agree that no company is bind to give out a bonus. But it is something nice to give a $15K bonus to someone that made the company more than $40 million in extra annual revenue. I know that if I didn't give my notice for another week, I would have gotten my review and the bonus. Live and learn.

Still the no title situation really gets me.
