EMT Discrimination

I have worked for an EMS company since June last year. I started as a Wheelchair driver, but received my EMT-B in Oct. I work w/ the company as an EMT-B, but am still paid as a Wheelchair driver. I have been told that I must take a company protocol test to advance. The test also had to be taken on my own time. This is despite the fact that very few employees have taken the test, and I have all my certifications (national and state). I believe I am being discriminated against. This company seems shady and has been accused of medical fraud and insurance fraud, and I believe the owner just is unwilling to pay me what every other EMT makes. As of now I am the lowest paid EMT, despite my years of experience in the military. I am also a wounded veteran from the Iraq war. Is there anything I can do here?

Your easiest option would be to resign and seek EMT employment at another agency. Or, seek new employment and then resign. EMT positions should be relatively easy to secure.

You could also take your claims to your state labor or employment board. They can offer you assistance and remedies.
