My mortgage company A holds my escrow to pay taxes, etc. A different company B payed my 2006 taxes beacause of an address mistake on their behalf. When company A tried to pay the 2006 taxes the money was returned because company B had already paid them. Now Company B is looking for reimbursement because they nowrealize their mistake. Should I be held liable for the money? Or should company B own up to their mistake an eat the loss?

Pay the money back; you have no ethical, moral, legal, etc. reason to benefit from someone else's mistake.
