Eviction or not to get 19 yr old out of NC hm ?

My husband and I want to know how to get our 19 yr old son out of the house who is no longer in college. He does not follow our rules and it is stressful having him in the house. He has not done anything illegal (at least that we are aware), just needs to get out and make it on his own. He paid us rent for 2 months, but that was mostly from doing work around the house. We do not have anything signed, just a verbal agreement that we would reevaluate the situation each month. Well, we now want him to go and he doesn't want to. We live in NC, and would like to know how to best proceed.
