I left a company several months ago to go home and take care of my family member. This company had moved me and my family so that I could work there. I signed a Relocation Agreement that stated I would repay the full amount of expenses if I left the company, willfully or not, before my 2 year anniversary, within 30 days of my leaving. I had circumstances beyond my control and had to leave the company and area to attend to my family member. Upon my departure, no one from the company spoke to me about the repayment, or contacted me, just handed me a copy of the agreement and I left. They have tried to contact me regarding repayment of these funds 6 months after I left, and now have taken it to a collections agency. Since I left, I was also unemployed for months and am in no way able to pay back the full amount in a lump sum. My question is, am I still responsible for repaying all of the expenses, almost a year after I left the company? Please advise!
