Hello, I left my last job around a year ago because a new company who acquired the original company made a complete mess of things. Though I barely use it, they are still paying the bill for my work cell phone even though I informed them by phone a couple months after I left the job. I know the bill for this cell phone is in the name of the company and not mine.

Whereas the bill is in their name, can I still get in any trouble for this?

Thank you very much.

Possibly. They could ask you for the money, and I suppose they could always try suing you for it. I don't like their chances, but you are deriving some benefit from it. Why not simply give the cell phone back to them?

I like their chances better that Dee Dub does. While they may have made the initial error in not retrieving/turning off the phone, our poster knows that the phone does not belong to him and has not returned it. He has the benefit of a free phone that he knows he is not entitled to.

He's not committing any crimes, I'm not saying that. But I'd say the company's chances of winning a civil suit for repayment of the phone bills is at least 50/50 if not better.
