I was out with my girlfriend the other night and we got in an argument. I called her a name and she took off. When I got back to my apartment I saw that she had poured bleach on the carpet, tore my clothes, and gouged the screen on my $120 calculator. What route do I take with this? I'm the only name on the lease. Since I gave her the key is there anything I can do?

You can file a claim against her. But the complex would hold you responsible for the damage not her. A report as suggested above would help having evidence of the incident.

Thank you for your help. I did as suggested and as soon as she was contacted by the police she called me wanting to pay for the all damages. She wants me to drop it before we go to court. The only problem now is that she can't afford it right now and I'm not dropping anything until I've got a guarantee that she's going to pay. Is there some sort of contract that I can have her sign saying that she will pay by a certain date, something that I can take her to court with if she doesn't? Would I need an attorney for something like that?
