In the state of Illinois, what is considered a reasonable amount of time in the execution of a will? Also, how do the recipients of the will know that the executer is executing the will properly? My siiblings and I have a question how the money from a buidling will be distributed. Our mom and her husband own a building. Our mom has passed on. She owned half of the building they lived in and she left her half to me and my siblings. We had discussed this with mom and her husband while she was still alive, and my sisters and I were going to buy the other half of the building at market value. Now my moms husband says that he changed his mind and would like to buy the building himself but that our half would not amount to much. The value of the building is close to a million but he says he would have his real estate agent sell it to him for $450,000 and then take deductions out for improvements to the property. Also there is not mortgage on the property. We all agree that taking deductions sounds okay with us but not buying it at so much below the true value of it. Will he be able to do what he is suggesting? If so, what recourse do we have? None of us want to make this a big legal case. We just want what is coming to us but have no time for legal battles.
