How common is it for the executor to ask for payment before the estate is settled?
Our executor was going to wait until the estate was complete before giving the beneficiaries anything. Now they are offering exactly half now (and the rest in June 2011), but want us to sign a release saying the accounting to this date is accurate, and authorizing them to take their executor fees now.
The accounting looks to be good, and very detailed. We're not sure we want to agree to cough up the fees now though, and who knows if there might be accounting problems later.
