I dread this part but my mom has asked me to be executor of her will.

Do we need a lawyer? What do we do?
When I spoke to her bank; they said I can have power of attorney but I would still need to be executor of her will when she passes to get into her bank accounts for dispersing her wishes among the family

You don't need a lawyer. You might want to consult a lawyer at this time to identify what will be involved in executing the will, to see whether you want to agree to act. If and when you become executor, you might want a lawyer (it's a good idea) to assist you in executing the will to make sure you do so correctly.
