Explanation of letter from executor

I have been named as a beneficiary in my neighbours will.
It states that he has given me the contents in his house, including his vehicle.

The other night the executor came over with a paper, he said that the lawyer drafted this up, asking me to sign it, and accepting only the vehicle and that would complete my entitlement and satisfy the will.

I of course did not sign it, as this is not what my neighbour wanted.

Why would a lawyer change what is in a will that he, the lawyer, made?

What are my options at this point? Is this normal practice for a lawyer to pitch this to a beneficiary, to accept less?

Thanks for your help

The lawyer is only doing what the executor and the family wants done. You are entitled to all the property in the house. Accept nothing less.

Thank you very much for your help. I did think that it may have been the executors or the family.
I will certainly accept nothing less than what the deceased gentleman wanted.

Thanks again, much appreciated.
