Failure to Keep in Proper Lane-- Lanes Unmarked

I recently was involved in a traffic accident in which no citation was issued. However, on the police report, my "Driver Contributing Code" was listed as "Failure to keep in proper lane".

Technically, the street I was traveling on was separated by a dashed white line into two lanes, but pictures of the street show that the line is so faded that it is unable to be seen from a vehicle. The street is narrow, and if you look at all the traffic turning onto the street, you will notice that all vehicles straddle the two lanes.

My question is this: If the lanes are not delineated by white lines, or the lines are too faded to be seen, am I responsible for failing to keep in the proper lane?

In the event that the lane is not marked, drivers are supposed to keep to the right. One of two things happened. The officer either felt the lane was marked properly and you failed to maintain your lane, or he felt that you did not keep to the right portion of the road.

Since you won't be going to court, you should share this information (the condition of the road) with your insurance company so that they can factor it in when a claim is made against you.
