can a process server deliver a "summons notice to appear for pretrial conference/mediation" by just dropping the papers off on the ground in front of my door? i thought that a process server had to personally hand the paperwork to a person and explain the paperwork. the day or so it was delivered was a windy day. when i look on the clerk of court website, it states that "I" was served the summons. do i have any recourse?

If a process server sees you or can communicate with you that he/she has papers for you they can leave the papers within sight of you for you to pick up. This prevents ridiculous notions of not being "personally served" because you refuse to open the door. Service is NOTICE. If you know about it and have the opportunity to be heard a Judge will likely consider service made. If you ignore it you are going to wish you didn't.
