To anyone out there who can, I'd really appreciate it.
I was driving with a couple of friends in Ohio, we were lost, but that's not the story. I was going 35, the speed limit in the town, and I had nor eason to get pulled over. I came to a red light and it was green as I passed the "STOP HERE ON RED" sign, so I kept going. It turned yellow as I was about 10 feet in front of the light so I hit my brakes. I started to squeal my tires, trying to stop, but figured it'd just be best if I went anyway, the light was still yellow. I admit, the light turned red as my car was about 1/2 way through the light, but not any serious safety issue, as I've seen it done before. I am 16 years old and I was pulled over about a mile down the road. I just got my license about 2 months ago, and he took my info and sat in his car for about 20 minutes, doing what it is that they do. When he came back he told me to sign a ticket, and I did. However, I did not recieve a ticket. I asked him if I was to get a copy and he said "no a copy will be mailed to you." He told me that juveniles do not recieve a ticket, and that the court you would go to is in your home county. The court I understand, but all of my other friends who had recieved tickets had gotten them there. I recieved a letter in the mail from the court telling of my court date.
The paper says that "...You are to review the complaint/ticket and this document..." In the packet, I did not recieve a ticket at all...only a paper stating from the court what I was to have done. My friend told me that he has had two cases dismissed twice because the officer that issued the ticket, did not serve it to him. The second time, he said that the arresting officer did not issue the ticket to him.
I was just wondering what the law says about juvenile cases such as this one, and whether I should admit to the charges or deny them, considering that I have two witnesses that said that they couldn't see the light to begin with, let alone think that I could have stopped.
The way I see it, the officer would have pulled me over, regardless, because I would have been in the intersection. He also said that I may have my license revoked or suspended.
What do I do?? I have a court date for Monday, so any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Mike
