Yesterday, while I was at home, I heard a really loud BOOM, I checked the front yard and back, and saw nothing amiss and went about my business. As I was getting ready to leave the house, the police came walking up and said "don't touch the fence it may be electrified." They then proceeded to tell me that the neighbor saw my kids shooting a shot gun at the transformer, and the geese in the field, and a lady in red out there as well. I was flabbergasted, all 3 of my boys had been gone all day and I was not wearing red. I told this to the police, who requested checking all the rooms in my house to be sure I was not hiding them!! Of course I let them. I told them we did not own any real guns, only paintball and airsoft which had not been used. They asked for all of my kids information and if they were on parole. Luckily my family is about as squeeky clean as they come, and all 3 boys can verify that they were not at home. We live on a dead end dirt road, so the chance of her actually seeing ANYONE that she could have mistaken for my kids is slim to none (and I was there all morning, so I know no one else was here). She told the police and fire department, who in turn told my other neighbors. When the boys got home that evening, they told me that the Edison guys working on the wire gave them the "stink eye" so I am supposing that she told them as well. Is this cause for slander? I am furious that she would make up such a story, which is so completely untrue.
