I was just served papers today. Plaintiff says I owe $2,500.00. Her son owes her the money, I do not. Only verbally at the time did her son and I say would make possible arrangements to pay the money back, since then her son and I separated and all of my documents and belongings were taken by the family. I have the belief she will produce false signed documents to win her case in small claims court at time of trial. Can she win or is there anything I can do that will support MY case without any official documents?
Thank You for Any Advise,

An oral agreement is just as binding as a written one.

Whether what you said ("possible arrangements") amounts to an agreement to pay the money back might be arguable.

False how? Signed by whom?

It's up to her to prove her case against you. If she provides false evidence, challenge its authenticity mercilessly. Show what the real signature looks like and that it's not like the one on the document. Question the provenance or custody of the documents. Question the source of the debt: if it's for something that her son has the benefit of, why would you be paying for it. Cast whatever doubt you can.
