I made an absent minded, yet unfortunate mistake and now Im worried If I will be victimized by wrongfully losing my job. I work for the foodservice department of Store name, and I live in Texas btw. Well, every year the bakery (which we work side by side with) has a xmas activity in which people can sign up to come sit and decorate a gingerbread house. I had planned on attending but I had to work that day...Ive never done this before so I didnt really know what to expect. So I asked the bakery manager if I could just take it home and decorate it instead. She said that would be fine. She put the gingerbread house in a considerably large brown box along with the candied decorations, then left for the day.
Later on that next day she had asked if I ever bought my gingerbread house and thats when I became more and more confused. She questioned me and became more and more angry...basically started yelling at me and saying "how can you actually be that stupd?" I got so upset I started crying and shaking...the cake decorator was there with her and saw what all was going on. I told her it was an honest mistake that I vaguely remember her telling me that she put the price sticker on the large brown cardboard box. She just kept talking down to me and raising her voice at me...she also said "we sell things here, how can you not know you have to purchase it?" We NEVER do anything complimentary." I couldnt understand how I could mess up like that...and it upsets me that my own careless mistake caused all this chaos. I know Ive heard of honest people accidentally walking out with merchandise before, its not unheard of. I just cant believe I made the same mistake.
Im not all that worried about her getting in my face even though I think she crossed the line.I never even took it out of my car yet..so I of course gave it back.I feel like I had alot on my mind (like I usually do) and didnt notice the sticker on it so I forgot that I had to purchase it. I DID page the Assistant Store Director immediately after it happened and explained it throughly. I sat down with him and he explained to me that LP cant just flatly say "well, whatever....you're fired, and thats that." He said that their LP guy is a good listener and fair, etc. He also said that they will say whether or not they think any investigation is needed, or if its just something to be written off. The Assistant SD informed me of all the store policies, such as grazing, etc...alot of which I didnt even know...he was very helpful.Anyway, when LP does show up, should I sign a statement or not??? I dont steal this was a false accusation so please take that into account. This is detremental. Should I just write my side of what happened on the form BUT not sign it?? What do you recommend besides me pulling my head outta my a**??
