In the UK....

My parents gave my brother-in-law £10,000 as a short term loan based on the verbal agreement that he would re-pay it in a week or 2.

It is now known he has no way of repaying and was never in a position to repay. The funds were taken from my parents credit card.

1)Do they have grounds to persue him through court for the money?
2)Is there any way of transfering this debt to him? i.e. forcing the credit card company to recognise him as the debtor and not my parents?

He is un-employed, own a property and is signing on.

Many thanks.

Keep in mind that the only British law I know is what I learned through reading Rumpole of the Bailey stories.

A: If you are asking if the parents have the right to pursue him through the courts, yes. Whether they can prove theire case or not is something I do not know.

A: Are you kidding?
