My wife and I own our house and share it with our grown son. We have had a verbal rental agreement since we moved in. The son has not paid rent in 2 years due to financial issues. The major problem though, is he has a bad temper and gets verbally abusive and has on occasion gotten physical. We had a recent incident that almost resulted in the police being called. We want to tell him to leave, and know that he will not go willingly. He has evened threatened to burn the house down if we throw him out. What legal methods do we have to get him out? What steps do we need to take?

You follow your unamed state's guidlelines for tenant removal. Without knowing state here are soe suggestions

A. Give him "notice to vacate" time to leave depend son state laws I will guess 60 days

B. Enforce rental agreement.
This starts with a "pay rent or quit" notice (how many days depends on state laws)
If unpaid by time period end (Generally 3 - 5 days) go to court and file eviction papers.

(Note) if he doesnt leave after vacate time as ended (See option A) then follow up with filing eviction papers.

This sounds reasonable. I am interested in the tenant eviction tlp act for notification period.
