Hello All!,

I paid off my sisters car in the amount of 12000.00 because at the time we we're living together and splitting costs. It was my idea to refinace my house in order to recieve some money and pay our cars off. I unfortunately never had a signed agreement as to why I would pay the car off nor is the title in my name nor was there a verbal contract. After 4 years my sister has now moved away and I feel since she's not spliiting expenses she should pay for the car. Is there anything I can do?

Dumb I know, any advice will be greatly appreciated,

Thank you very much

Using the facts that you recited, this wasn't a loan.

She probably considered it a gift.

But, if you can prove it was a loan, you can sue her.

The statute of limitations in Colorado is generally six years for debts (oral, written contracts, or promissory notes).

You have an uphill battle, but if you wish you can sue her.

I'd give you about a one percent chance of success.

Nevertheless, you can sue.

If I were you, I'd forget about it.

If it were my wife, she'd ask her to make a settlement offer in fairness.

She'd tell her the debt is $12,000.

She'd ask her what she thinks she owes.

Whatever she said, my wife would take it.

It works for her.

You're more than welcome.

By the way, what you did wasn't dumb.

It's only money and it's meant to be used.

She's the one that did you wrong.

Don't give this a second thought.

Life and karma will reward you handsomely one day.

There is never any shame in doing a good deed or in helping another person.
