I want to take a medical assistant course and I need to know if my felony will prevent me. My charge is check fraud. (it is drug related, but on paper my felony is check fraud) It has been 4 yrs since my conviction. I'd like to know if I am able to have this expunged, if it is necessary. Please give me some advice. I am trying to go to school.:(

State?

Each state has its own laws on expungements. What state are you posting from? Read the application for Fed Loans and it states whether or not you are eligible for aide based on certain convictions. You said it was check fraud; Are you sure that is what you were convicted of with nothing else attached about drugs? If you were not convicted of any drug charges then you can apply for Fed. loans.
Quote from FAQ on FAFSA Website.
"This question on the FAFSA asks about convictions for possessing or selling illegal drugs (not including alcohol and tobacco). Do not count convictions that have been removed from your record. Do not count convictions that occurred before you turned 18, unless you were tried as an adult."
More info on site and there is even a drug conviction worksheet you can check out.
