Ok; So i got caught stealing from my employer (800 USD). The employer called the police and had me arrested. I did already admit to it because they had tapes of me stealing the money. I wrote my statement, they copied it and gave it to the police officer. They then took me down to the police station and put me in a 24 hour holding cell. Next an investigator brought me in, asked me basic questions like did i do the crime etc.. I admitted again to doing the crime and signed a paper. He then let me go. I have no idea as to what is next. The police has not told me anything nor have i received anything in the mail (incident happened about 2 weeks ago). I did receive 2 letters in the mail from soliciting attorneys saying that "Our records show that you may be in need of a attorney" Obviously i do need one, but i am only 17 and don't have money for one. I called all of the courts here that could possibly have my case, and every one of them say that i am not in there systems. I did contact an attorney for some general help, and he couldn't find me in the system either. I dont know what to do... I AM moving out of the address i gave the police station, but i will still have the same cell phone number. Also, my employer said they would set up a payment system, allowing me to make monthly payments towards my debt i owe.. Can somebody please help me and tell me what to do.. I'm in Kansas City Missouri. I want to join the Military ASAP, but i'm scared i might need a waiver i dont know what to do. Please help !

Okay, you've made a few mistakes.
First of all, never break any law, obey all laws.
That means from this point forward, even obey all traffic laws.
Then, you wouldn't be in this mess.
But, going forward stop talking.
You need to wait this out.
I would say not to pay, but you've boxed yourself
into a corner.
So, if you have the funds, start paying back what you admit to stealing.

If you are eventually charged, be polite, don't resist or run, and plead not guilty.
If you can't afford a lawyer, ask the court to appoint one for you.
If you have a relatively clean record, your lawyer can get you into a diversionary program.
Simply put, if that happens, do the program, stay out of trouble, you record stays clean.

But, until a few more weeks have elapsed, all you can do is wait.

I'd discuss this with your recruiter, because they'll find out when they fingerprint you. Your recruiter can assist you in getting this cleaned up, in certain cases. Ask.

Do not say another word to anyone! Go directly to a lawyer or lawyers for advice! Since many attorneys offer free intial consultation I suggest you get several. In mean time if Police or store attempt to question or contact you again refuse to answer any questions without legal representation. Your signed admissions work against you so its important you talk to a lawyer
