i went to court for shoplifting and i was sentenced to jail time for my first offence is there any way to fight this? i wrote a letter to the judge to see if he would reconsider my sentence and he denied it

Ok but you did not talk to a lawyer or DA about plea deal. You made a BIG mistake with that. There is nothing that can likely get done. You can strt calling Lawyers to see if they can offer you a solution but I fear its too late. If you read through the topics here you will see we NEVER recommend a person waltz into court and just plead guilty or no contest. Its like writing a blank check

the court told me that i could appeal this if i get a lawyer but my jail time is this weekend so is there any way to get out of going to seek legal consel or something i can do

 Are you insane!! that will only get you even more charges and more jail time. The time to ask questions and learn was before you handed Judge blank check

Dude your toast. Its over you rolled the dice and faced court without a Lawyer and you lost. There is nothing you can do but do your time. Had you come here before court we might have directed you in a way that things might had turned out different. Its too late now. Sorry you need to report to jail and do your time. You will also now have a criminal record that will likely cause future problems as well

well i tried i talked to the judge for a while to see if he would reconsider my sentence but it didnt work and its kind of late to talk to a lawyer now but i fear that i may take my life because i cant handle going to jail and i dont know what to do

Listen how long are you going in for? Jail isnt great but its not prison. It certainly isnt worth your life! By the way you might mention your sucidal thoughts when you show up to jail! Your bad choices got you into this dont make more bad choices and make things worse. Do your time then move on

Get some professional help. ASAP.

After you serve your jail time (which isnt prison as another poster said). Get a lawyer and appeal your conviction. You usually have a set period of time to appeal. You pled no contest which means that you did not admit guilt but that the state had enough evidence to convict you on the alleged offense.

After you serve your jail time, contact the court clerk and see what your options are. This is not the end of the world.

#1 - Take a deep breath
#2 - Serve your time and obey all the court orders
#3 - Seek some professional medical help
#4 - Contact the court clerk and see what your options are as far as appealing the conviction and sentence.
#5 - Pay all fines and court costs
#6 - Steal no more.

Jail for theft is temporary.
Death is permanent.
