Brewster County, Texas, My wife and I had been to visit my son and were driving a rental car in South Texxas where speed limit is 75. We were talking about scenery etc. when a DPS trooper passed going the othe way. Clocked us at 89. Acted like we were drug dealers because we were driving an hour to go to lunch in Alpine. Wanted to search car, but when I asked if he had reason, decided not to. Called and faxed for extension on time to pay, but received no reply. Was given court date, which I faxed judge to explain I did not ask for or want since jurisdiction was 500 miles away. How should I proceed. Thanks for any suggestions.

If you dispute the citation, what grounds do you have for the dispute?

Unless you have a valid argument to make to dispute your speed, your best option may be to just pay the citation and go to traffic school.

Traffic school, in Texas does not require you to pay the citaction.
You pay a fee less than the citation.
But, if you didn't ask for traffic school within a specified time, you usually can't get it.
You can ask deferred adjudication.
You pay a larger fee and costs.
You get no citations for 90 days, the original citation is dismissed.
But, it never hurts tio call the JP Court and ask to speak with the JP.
Most of them will speak with you.
If not, most JP Clerks will tell you what can and can't be done.

Guys - I think you all missed the point of his question. He didn't want a court date, simply an extension on the time to pay the ticket. Instead of an extension they gave him the court date.

You need to contact the court handling this and find out how to proceed.

That is exactly right. Also, It was snowing on the day. Faxed in all info an have received no reply. I will contact.

Contacted, will start paying and write judge to ask about lowering fine due to unemployment and medical conditions.
