My 92yr old grandma was hospitalized 10/01/08 for a possible heart attack.

This stress she has is due to the harrassment she has been enduring by her neighbors. My parents live on the property as "care takers" for her and they are involved as well.

Briefly,
Grandma has owned the property (zoned R-5 in Snohomish County, WA.) for over 37 yrs. Got new neighbors roughly 7 yrs ago. They moved in and decided almost 3 years ago that they didn't like the fact that everyone had barbed wire fences. This started a long and ridiculous problem. There have been letters back and forth, one section of the fence was removed and an attorney was finally aquired by my family. He said to file for a restraining order. That was after they posted "No Tresspassing" signs which were ripped down, then replaced, and then spray painted (have pictures of her doing it)Unfortunately, they didn't try to get a restraining order at that time.

Now they sent a letter(9/25/08) giving my family 60 days to take down the remaining fence and comply with their wishes to install a new one (of their choice) to which they (my family)are expected to pay for.

Three days(9/28/08) after receiving the letter, the neighbor along with 4 or 5 of his buddies proceeded to knock down and remove the fence. Grandma was watching as this happened. We had to called 911 because she has shaking and hyperventilating. They came and were very concerned about her as well. She had a BP of 200/110 and a HR of 115. Not good for a 92year old woman. She was taken to her Dr. for a check on 9/29/08 and he was still concerned about her BP and HR. Then on 10/01/08 she was taken (by EMS) to the hospital for a possible heart attack.

Now I went with my parents to the courthouse on 9/29/08 to try and file a restraining/anti harrassment order against these people. We were told that they probably wouldn't get one because they and their persons had not been physically threatened.

How are we to protect ourselves and our property from people who think they can just move in and take over. They keep running into roadblocks at every turn. They are trying evrything legally possible and getting discouraged by it all. I want to help them but I am not sure where to go or how to start.

Any advice would be more than welcome!

If these people trespassed on your land and tore down a fence as well - call the police. They can and should be arrested for the physical invasion of your land as well as destruction of your property. Best of luck to you and grandma - hope she lives to enjoy her property many more years!
