Hi there,
I am hoping someone can help me with a traffic violation I acquired back in 2003. Long-story-short, got the ticket passing through a rural county (without a physical courthouse) and unfortunately the traffic officer manually wrote my ticket number incorrectly - so I couldn't pay the violation through their automated system, or until my ticket arrived. Well, I never received any paperwork in this regard until 2 years later, when the ticket went into collections. NICE!
So I paid (what I thought was) the total collection amount in full, later to learn that there was still an outstanding balance (processing fee) and now the collections agency wants $1,800 to release the ticket.
CAN THEY DO THIS?!
I am hoping someone explain my rights when dealing with a collection agency, in relation to traffic violations? This seems like an abuse of power, doesn't it?
Thank you,
JK
