My husband was served a warrant in debt by his ex wife stating an amount and only the words "children's expenses" - how can we find out what exactly that amount constitutes so we can mount a proper defense? In other words, how can we know before we go to court WHAT to defend? She has had no direct contact with us as to what the amount is for. Children have not been minors for several years.
thanks!

Without knowing what state you're in, it's impossible to say. You might not have to know what to defend before the first court date - this may just be an initial appearance. In any case, you should have the option to respond and ask for particulars.

If you're in Virginia, check this out: http://www.lsnv.org/GDC_First_Page.pdf. If not, check your local court website or court clerk's office for information on civil procedure.
