I'm 20 years old and live in michigan. Back in september I went to a store with some friends. A few weeks later a detective called me and said I was on camera shop lifting. I did not really shop lift from the store and no one i was with did. After a few weeks of being questioned I was issued with a bench warrent and turned myself in. I had to get bailed out and then recieved a notice to appear in court. I soon got a lawyer. i then found out there wasn't even anything on the video and the prosecutors never would release the video to my lawyer. me and only one other girl I was with are being charged of RPNO of about $140 worth of merchandise due to the clerk saying we stole it all. A week ago I had a settlement conference and had to decide to bring it to trial. my lawyer said it was pretty much my word vs the stores. I had already missed enough class and decided it wasn't worth it. I took a plea for conspiracy to commit RPNO so I could recieve diversion. I won't be sentenced for another month and was wondering how much I will probably be ending up paying. I don't have much money and would like to figure out a way to get the money but was just wondering how much to expect. thanks.

its removing property not owned...so shoplifting. I was just wondering what fines unusually are around.

Your Civil fine varies by state and amount taken. The criminal fine is usually less than $500.00. This does not include any class you may be asked to take or other fees that "might" apply

I never understood admitting to something that you did not do. There has to be more to this story. Anyway, just stay in contact with the court and give them your current address. They want their money, so they will work with you as long as you are paying them.

You probably have court fines and costs which you can find out by calling the court clerks office and asking. The key is that even if you can't afford the whole amount, give them something and PAY them.

#1 - take a deep breath
#2 - pay your fines
#3 - Steal no more

Pay attention to the BOLD section. Also keep in mind that these are the FINES. There are also court costs. Work out a payment plan with the courts because if you do not pay them they throw you in jail.

Worth less than $200 - Misdemeanor charges: up to 93 days in jail and fines of up to $500 or 3 times the value of the stolen property (whichever is more)
Worth more than $200, but less than $1,000 - Misdemeanor charges: up to 1 year in jail and fines of up to $2,000 or 3 times the value of the stolen property, whichever is more
Worth more than $1,000 and less than $20,000 - Felony charges: up to 5 years in prison and fines of not more than $10,000 or 3 times the value of the stolen property, whichever is more
Worth more than $20,000 - Felony charges: up to 10 years in prison or fines of not more than $15,000 or 3 times the value of the stolen property, whichever is more
