I was the office manager in a busy sales office with no prior problems. On a busy weekend at 8:00 pm. I was having a bit of a meltdown with a sales rep and my boss (who happens to be a long time friend prior to my employment) came into my office. In trying to have a conversation with him I said "I know, I think I need a job where I can be happy". He got up and said "your right you can leave now". In shock I asked if I was fired and he said "no you just quit". Stunned and confused I walked to his office and said "I'll give two weeks notice them". He told me to just leave tonight and we could talk about it tomorrow. In about an hours time he called and told me they packed up my things and I could pick them up from the security house and that he would call me Tuesday to let me know how they will handle this either as a termination or quit. I never received a phone call and did try to call him to no avail. I filed for unemployment and they paid me for one week. I currently have a appeal hearing scheduled for later this month. I know I was fired but how can I prove this? What are my chances of winning my appeal?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The case could be made that you quit. NEVER mention that you think you should have another job unless you're prepared to be taken up on it.

All you can do is tell the truth as you understand it and hope that the ALJ sees it your way.

Contacting Corporate Office?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply to my ?. I can tell I was understood. Now I have another question. I haven't contacted my home office HR Department since my firing. They only know what my boss told them. Would it be advisable for me to contact them and plead my case prior to my appeals hearing?

Thanks again,

I can't really say if it would be advisable or not since I don't know your former employer or how they would likely respond. Sorry.
