My wife was promoted Monday to General Manager of the business that she was working for. On Tuesday she had a "cardiac episode" that resembled a heart attack and caused her to be hospitalized for a few days. The episode happened at work. When she returned to work today (3 days later) she was fired for "making a bad management decision". The allegation is that an employee who quit the day before he was to take a mandatory drug test says he quit because he knew about the test. According to the owner of the store, someone "tipped" the kid off, and it must be my wife's fault that anyone knew about it so she was fired.

I believe that it has more to do with the medical incident. Does she have a case?

In short, no. Employment is at will, so she can be terminated at anytime with our without reason, so long as it wasn't discrimination. Also, she was now managment, so they need even less.

How long had she worked for the employer? How many employees within 75 miles of her location? Has she worked a minimum of 1,250 hours in the last 12 months?

There are a few more reasons than discrimination that are illegal. This *might* be one of them.
