Fired from Walmart?

My boyfriend got hired at Wal-mart on 11-20-09. He was working at Shaw's previously, only getting 19 hours a week. He quit Shaw's when he got hired at Wal-mart. Out of the blue, we get a phone call today, Dec 10 09 at 1:46pm. Its the assistant store manager telling him not to come to work anymore. They said he was a temp but shouldnt they give him a better time-frame so he can get another job lined up? None of his department managers were aware of this till today an it was out of the blue. He has never been late, and has gone into work early.They also had his schedule written up to Dec 18 so I assume they were going to keep him. Is there nything we can to do because I don't find this very fair. He has a family and rent, last hing we need is to lose income.
 
They don't have to give him a reason to let him go. You will find out soon enough that life is not fair... it just it.

Help your friend brush up his resume, that is about all you can do.
 
While it would have been nice of them to give him more notice so that he could line up another job, they are not required to by law, and there are actually good reasons why most employers do not. Nor, as indicated above, does the law require that they provide a reason.

There are a lot of things in employment law that may or may not be "fair" but are entirely legal. As a colleague of mine says, Fair is where you go to look at pigs and ride the ferris wheel.

Sorry I can't give you a better answer. Will Shaw's take him back?
