I was fired from a company on 11/4/2009 due to poor sales conversion (calls to sales %) I had a rough couple of weeks but for the most part did a pretty good job. I understand that in at will states they can let you go whenever, however in training and from a supervisor in a team meeting they said that they have a progressive write up policy for those that have bad metric for the previous weeks. I was never written up and no coaching provided for several weeks. There are agents there that have been written up and others that were let go that were written up. I just want to know doesnt the company need to be consistent with how they handle write ups or can they wirte up one person and just fire another?

it was told to employees verbally how the write policy would work. with that being said shouldn't they follow what they say verbally

but at the same time all the employees have heard this come from training and from leadership. Just doesnt seem right when some employees go thru the write up policy and given the chance to improve and others are just let go without for warning

Generally they should follow their policy in a consistent manner. If they don't take a copy of the handbook to an attorney in your state. In general a 10 minute intake on the phone is no charge. This will determine one way or the other if you have a case, and if you have a case if it worth pursuing.
